Amélie moves to Broadway

Following the success of Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2001 film – one of the highest grossing French productions of all time -the cult film was adapted into a musical, which is now set to take the Big Apple by storm. ‘Amélie, A New Musical’ promises to maintain the aesthetics of the shy, candid girl from the Parisian neighbourhood of Montmartre who decides to change the world by making other people happy.

Following its run in Los Angeles, critics have praised Phillipa Soo’s interpretation of Amélie. The actress and singer is known for her performance in the hit musical ‘Hamilton’, for which she was nominated for best actress in a musical in 2016. According to the Los Angeles Times, when she sings ‘the stars in Paris’ night sky shine brighter’. Broadway is looking forward to the opening night on 9 March, at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Tickets are available on the website.
