Six Tyrol Parks for Nature Lovers
Hohe Tauern National Park
More than 10,000 animal and 1,800 plant species reside in High Tauern. Located in East Tyrol and covering 1,856 square kilometres, it’s the biggest national park in the Alps. Alpine plains, more than 500 lakes, wild rivers, 26 waterfalls and glacial peaks form a landscape crowned by the majestic King Grossglockner, Austria’s highest summit at 3,798 metres. The Park’s headquarters in Matrei is a good starting point for getting to know the reserve. Exploration is best done with a guide, and there are more than 30 guided tours to choose from.
